    • Mindeskrift over H.E.J.:
Last week end relives and friends received the sad news that Henry E. Joens, a former resident of this community had passed away at his home in Petersburg township, Jackson County, Minnesota.
A few weeks ago, children were called to his bedside and it was at that time seen that a recovery was almost out of the question. He gradually grew weaker and finally passed away after a brief illness, on Friday, December 6th, 1935.

Henry E. Joens was born in Erfde, Schleswig, Germany, on the 19th of May, 1857. He came to America in the year 1881, settling near Clinton, Iowa. From there he moved to Aspinwall where he followed the occupation of a carpenter, a trade which he had learned in Germany.
After being in Aspinwall he came to Manning, where he farmed. He lived here until the year 1919 and then he moved to Petersburg Township, Minn., and it was there that he died.

On the 16th day of October in 1883 he was united in marriage at Denison, Iowa, to Miss Maria Siggelka, and to them were born six children. One of their children died in infancy, and Alma (Mrs. Richard Michel) died at the age of 35.

The four children that survive their father are:
      Anna, Mrs. John J. Struve.
      Elsie, Mrs. Peter Struve.
Bertha, Mrs. John H. Gosch of Jackson Minnesota.
      Henry, at home.

These children with their mother are left to mourn his death. There is also an adopted daughter, Loletta, of Minneapolis, and three grandchildren made sorrowful by his death.
Mr. Joens was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith when he was a child. Mr. and Mrs. Joens celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on October the 16th, 1933.
He was well known in this town and vicinity and his passing has brought grief to many. At the time of his death Mr. Joens was 78 years, 6 months and 17 days of age.

Services were held at his home at Jackson, Minn., on Saturday with Rev. L. W. Kern officiating, and his body was brought here for burial.
The Funeral was held Monday, December 9th, conducted by Rev. Ellis J. Hough of Manning.
Pallbearers were John Frahm, Fred Koester, Chris Bohnsack, Albert Puck, Conrad Dietz, Hannes Schmidt. Burial was in the Iowa Township cemetery.
